Images from Anna Binta Diallo’s Open Studios of completed and work in progress at The Banff Centre for the Arts. This body of work was made during a thematic residency in which she used mixed media, collage, and sculpture to create a site-specific installation. "Wanderings" explores how folk stories can have an influence on the formation of identity. Anna Binta took part in a 5-week residency: “Distributed Identities with Deanna Bowen, Brendan Fernandes, and Tara Aisha Willis.” This residency was aimed for artists whose work question the role of culture, history, and gender in determining the communities with which we identify, participate, and create. The program explored transcultural aesthetics, autobiography, migration and displacement, hybridity and fluidity, as well as relationships between language, history, and identity. |
